Beijing Cross-country announced an independent new lineup to build the first cross-country brand in China.

Established on March 31, 2017, Beijing Automotive Group Off-road Vehicle Co., Ltd. has been operating in the name of off-road vehicle division of BAIC Group. The R&D, procurement and manufacturing belong to BAIC Group, and some of the sales work belongs to BAIC. Now, all these businesses will be carried out by Beijing Off-road Vehicle Company in a unified way and will no longer be linked to BAIC.

In order to enable BAIC’s off-road vehicle business to operate independently, according to the Announcement of Road Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and Products (the 314th batch), in November 2018, Beijing Automobile Group Co., Ltd. transferred its last and only automobile production license to Beijing Automobile Group Off-road Vehicle Co., Ltd.

Beijing Cross-country announced an independent new lineup to build the first cross-country brand in China.

From 1965, when the first Beijing (BJ)212 off-road vehicle was unveiled and rode by President Mao Zedong, to today’s Warrior Military Vehicle, Beijing (BJ)40 and Beijing (BJ)80, Beijing brand off-road vehicle has gone through more than 50 years of history, and it is as deeply rooted in people’s hearts as Hongqi brand car, and has become one of the two national quintessences of China automobile as Chairman Xu Heyi said.

However, for a long time, Beijing brand off-road vehicles have gone through a tortuous road, and it was not until Xu Heyi took the helm of BAIC Group at the end of 2006 that they began to have room for survival. At the 2008 Beijing Auto Show, the BJ40 (also known as Beiqi B40 at that time) concept car was officially unveiled. In December 2013, it was officially listed.

In 2017, Beijing (BJ)80 successfully completed the military parade held by national leaders in Hong Kong and Zhurihe Training Base respectively, and Beijing (BJ)40 also shined brilliantly in the movie Wolf Warriors 2, which was popular all over the country this year. Although the sales volume is still limited, it also shows that Beijing off-road vehicles have a position that is beyond the reach of any other off-road brand.

Chairman Xu Heyi hopes that the sales volume of Beijing off-road vehicles will go up a storey still higher. When Beijing (BJ)40 PLUS and Beijing (BJ)80 Everest Edition went public on May 27, 2018, he said that the brand of Beijing Off-Road Company should "make Beijing Off-Road Company the killer of BAIC Group’s differential competition and become the new mainstream of the automobile market!"

In August 2018, at the Aershan Media Test Drive Conference held by BAIC Group, Xu Heyi told the media: "The automobile is a fully competitive market, and BAIC is a key state-owned enterprise in Beijing, which is very representative. BAIC must find its own position, do its best in market segments and earn the money it should earn. "

This also released a strong signal that BAIC Group wants to operate Beijing Off-Road Company independently. In September 2018, the 2018 strategy seminar of BAIC Group decided to build BAIC’s own "three brands (new energy vehicles, off-road vehicles and commercial vehicles)". Off-road vehicles are one of the best in the world, and the independence of Beijing Off-road Company should be put on the agenda.

Soldiers are expensive and fast. At the beginning of the new year in 2019, BAIC started by announcing the independence of Beijing Cross-country Company and its brand-new personnel appointment, which showed that Xu Heyi attached great importance to it.

In addition to the historical accumulation of the brand, in recent years, Beijing brand off-road vehicles have also had more details. On December 1, 2018, Beijing Automotive Group Off-road Vehicle Co., Ltd. won the Best Factory Digital Competition Excellence Award in China from the "Best Factory/Operation Excellence Award in China" jointly created by Kearney and auto business review.
