Wang Tong (584— In 617), a great scholar in the Sui Dynasty, after his death, his master became a literary neutron. He believes that Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism can communicate with each other, focusing on promoting Confucianism, which to some extent opened the voice of Neo-Confucianism in Song and Ming Dynasties. Later generations imitated the Analects of Confucius and wrote Zhong Shuo (also known as Wen Zhong Zi), and recorded his views on history and reality in the form of dialogue between Wang Tong and his disciples.

Zhong Shuo Zhou Gong Pian recorded a conversation between Shi Mi and Wang Tong, a literary boy. Shi Biao asked what is a hero? Wenzhong replied: "He who knows himself is English, and he who wins himself is male." It means that a hero is one who can correctly evaluate himself, and overcome all kinds of selfish distractions and self-defeating.

The book Zhong Shuo quoted a lot of Taoist words and imitated their writing. "Self-knowledge is English, self-success is male" is obviously born out of Laozi’s Tao Te Ching. Chapter 33 of the Tao Te Ching says: "Those who know others are wise, and those who know themselves are clear. The winner is strong and the winner is strong. "
